    Who’s this for?

This workshop is for you if…

    • You’re curious about how products, both physical and digital, are created from start to finish.
    • You find yourself working with other teams like designers and engineers, and need guidance on managing multiple stakeholders.
    • You’re interested in taking a Product Management Short Course, but want to test the waters first.

    technical requirements

To participate in this workshop, you’ll need to make sure you’re set up for success with the following:

    • A free Google account
    • A Zoom account
Professional Developer programmer working a software website design and coding technology, writing codes and database in company office, Global cyber connection technology.

    Key Takeaways

This workshop will leave you feeling confident in your knowledge of:

    PRODUCT MANAGEMENT BASICS

You’ll be able to explain the basic role and responsibilities of a product manager, and understand the career possibilities within the field of product management.

    COLLECTING AND ANALYZING USER FEEDBACK

From user interviews to affinity mapping, you’ll have the skills in your toolbelt to better understand your users needs and behaviors, and build a product that will actually solve their problem.

    CREATING AND TESTING A HYPOTHESIS

You’ll learn why testing is so important, and understand when to use which testing method to get the information you need to validate (or void) your hypothesis.

    Workshop Agenda

Learn the difference between a product manager and project manager, understand what we mean when we say “product” (spoiler alert: it’s more than just online websites and apps), and see what kind of career possibilities exist in the realm of product management.
How do product managers know what to build? They define a user problem and work toward a solution. Learn to differentiate between a problem and a solution (trust us, they can be easily confused), and to create a problem statement for your user’s specific need.
When building a solution, it’s important to understand how your user behaves. Enter: user interviews. Learn the basics of user interviews like building an interview plan, how to identify and avoid bias, and complete a partner exercise where you’ll actually practice the interview skills you’ve learned.
Once you have the qualitative data from your user interviews… What do you do with it? You map it. Get hands-on practice with compiling qualitative user data into categories and distinguishing trends and insights — also known as affinity mapping.
You wouldn’t buy a car without test-driving it, and you shouldn’t build a product without doing the same. Understand the different types of tests you can run (heads-up: there are a lot) and how to continue to collect user data and iterate on your product’s design.

    QUESTIONS? WE'VE GOT ANSWERS.

We understand that sometimes plans change. If you can no longer make it to a class or workshop, please email help@ga.co at least 7 days before the scheduled event date. No refunds will be given to cancellations made within a week of the class or workshop.

Look out for an email one day before, and one hour before the workshop with the Zoom link and workshop materials. If you don’t see the email, check your spam folder or reach out to help@generalassemb.ly and we’ll make sure you’re set up.
Our workshops are split into two evening sessions that are each three hours long. Workshops typically take place on a Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday, from 3–6 p.m. PT/6–9 p.m. ET.
Don’t worry, we know life can be hectic — and unpredictable. If you can only make one session, you'll still have access to the recordings for the entire workshop that you can reference at any time.
You bet — we want you to continue practicing and referencing the things you learned long after your workshop ends. You should receive the recording and any in-class materials within one week of your workshop via email.
We don't believe your education should end when your workshop does, so you'll have plenty of time to access your class recordings to review and revisit what you've learned at your own pace.
YES. We love this for you. If you enroll in a short course within six months, or a bootcamp within one year of your workshop, you can apply what you paid for the workshop toward your course. Talk to an admissions specialist to learn more about this — no strings attached.
Think of free classes as the “sample spoon.” No cost, no commitment, and you can try as many flavors as you want. Free classes are two hours long and hosted in a Zoom webinar where participant audio/video is automatically off, and interaction is contained within Zoom chat and Q&A functions. Workshops, on the other hand, are more like the “single scoop.” It costs a little, but you get a lot more. Workshops are six hours of live instruction hosted in a Zoom meeting room where participants can share audio/video and interact live with instructors and classmates.
    1 REFUND POLICY
We understand that, sometimes, plans change. If you can no longer make it to a class or workshop, please email us at least 7 days before the scheduled event date. No refunds will be given to cancellations made within a week of the class or workshop.
